             Lance Milsted is the Station Manager of AFN Stuttgart. Lance is a “Cheesehead” hailing from Sheboygan Wisconsin, just south of Green Bay…home of the Packers. 

Lance began is broadcasting career when he was a Sophomore in High School.  He was a member of the staff at WSHS the radio station at North High School.

He joined the Army June 7th, 1984, and attended basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and AIT at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana from 1984-1985.  He attended the Electronic Journalism Course immediately following the basic course.

Mr. Milsted’s assignments include:  Ft Carson, CO, Armed Forces Korean Network, Soldiers Radio and Television, the 25th ID( L), and DINFOS as an instructor from 1994-1999. 

He has had two combat tours:  Operation Just Cause, Panama, in 1990 and Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2005-2006.  During his first tour at DINFOS, MSG Milsted designed and wrote the curriculum to bring non-linear editing to DINFOS.  He also started his own freelance editing and training company. 

     Mr. Milsted got out of the Army in 1999 and went to work for Avid Technology’s Government Sales Department.  He spent 18 months with Avid, then moved into sales and marketing of video production services for Qwest Digital Media, Henninger Media Services and mBlaze Multimedia Design.  In 2004, he focused on freelance editing and production until the Army called him back into active service from the Inactive Ready Reserve in August 2004. 

      Mr. Milsted served as the Public Affairs NCOIC and DVIDS Coordinator for a year in Mosul, Iraq as part of the 366th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment.  In January 2006, he returned to DINFOS as the Lead Instructor for the Advanced Broadcast Subjects Department. In September 2008, MSG Milsted took over as NCOIC of the Broadcast Operations and Maintenance Department.

     Mr. Milsted retired December of 2009 after 26 years of active and reserve service. He moved on to NBC Universal, D.C, as an editor for the Today Show, NBC Nightly News and Hardball.  His assignment as the Operations Manager at AFN Stuttgart is his first tour of duty with American Forces Network in Germany. In 2012 he became the Station Manager.

Mr. Milsted enjoys mountain biking, hunting, camping, skiing and volunteering as a Scout Leader in Luke’s Cub Scout Pack.  He and his wife Shelly have been married for 19 years.  They have a nine year old son named Luke, a cat named Todd and they call LaPlata, MD home.
