ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- Eight employees of the Army Sustainment Command were recognized for their contributions to the command at the Wheeler Conference Room in building 350, Jan. 10.

The commanding general of ASC, Brig. Gen. John F. Wharton, formally announced the recipients of the 2011 ASC Commanding General Award for Excellence in a 2012 memorandum. The eight members who received awards were;

o Dennis Donald, a security specialist with the ASC Provost Marshal Office, received the award for "outstanding work while serving as a command adviser for physical security, anti-terrorism, and law enforcement by providing all seven Army Field Support Brigades with policy, guidance, and support. He provided analysis of criminal threats to the command and the continental U.S. area of responsibility and provided accurate, timely, and actionable criminal products, and developed countermeasures to reduce risk."

o Gail Fisher, a litigation paralegal in the ASC Office of Counsel, received her award for "outstanding work and support as a paralegal specialist in the ASC Office of Counsel. Her selfless and tireless efforts to support the legal mission of the ASC Office of Counsel and consequently to the mission of ASC far exceeded that which is required or expected."

o Bryan Hook, recently retired from more than 20 years of active duty as a sergeant first class, who was nominated for the award while on active duty and now currently works in the Distribution Management Center Support Operations, was awarded for his "service while serving on the DMC Transition Integrated Product Team as the Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge. His efforts were vital in the expedient reorganization of the DMC, enabling the preparation for the added mission ahead of schedule."

o Chief Warrant Officer 3 Adam Martin, the mobility officer for the DMC, received the award for "outstanding service while serving as leader in the Mobility Division of the DMC. As the DMC's mobility officer, he repeatedly demonstrated the leadership skills and technical expertise to successfully execute the ASC's mission as the Army Materiel Command's face to the field."

o William McKenna, lead support representative for the ASC's Enhanced Army Global Logistics Enterprise (EAGLE) Program, was awarded for "the tremendous amount of hard work and intellectual energy he placed into the EAGLE Program have laid the foundation for many years of success to come for the ASC."

o Lisa Peer, the Directorates of Logistics Fund Operations Division Chief for ASC's G-8, was awarded for "serving as the team lead that led the process to understand DOL funding, manpower and resource shortfalls, and processes to support operations control of Installation Management Command DOL functions to the AMC/ASC in preparation for full operational control on Oct. 1, 2012."

o Dave Sarafin, an accountant and senior internal review evaluator for ASC, received the award for being "an invaluable asset in defending, protecting, and ensuring the 'ASC story' is accurately and factually presented in external audit reports. He established key strategic relationships within the command and among senior leaders in external audit agencies."

o Carrie Schaffner, an attorney in the ASC Office of Counsel, received the award for her "dedication to supporting the command's work in building and maintaining strong labor relations and support for its management clients."

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Allen Shuller, DMC; and Neftali Santiago, 404th AFSB, will receive the award at a later date.

"We want [the ASC] to become a civilian center of excellence," said Wharton as he addressed the command. "It's the importance of what you do, the systems you put in place, and how you carry this command forward to get to the next level.

"I am amazed at some of the things that we do."

Wharton praised civilians of the ASC explaining they are the continuity that organizations like the ASC and the Army Materiel Command need to succeed in their missions.

"When you look at the range of what everyone is doing, it's really spectacular," he said. He added that those being honored went above and beyond expectations to make ASC succeed.

"They are just huge, huge accomplishments that this group right here has done," Wharton said.
