In announcing the U.S. Global Development Policy at the United Nations in September, President Obama highlighted the work of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and stated that the Administration’s new policy builds “in part on the lessons of the Millennium Challenge Corporation.” The President emphasized that America’s development investments can have maximum impact in countries that put in place high standards of transparency, good governance, and accountability.
Over the last seven years, MCC has been putting many of the President’s core development principles into practice—investing in economic growth, promoting country-led development, demanding accountability, and focusing on transparency and results. Today, MCC is playing a key role in the implementation of the Global Development Policy and continues to share lessons from its experience; strengthen its own model in the pursuit of poverty reduction through economic growth; and stay on the cutting edge of development.
Join Jim Kolbe, Co-Chair of the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network (MFAN); Gayle Smith, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director at the National Security Council; and Sheila Herrling, MCC Vice President for Policy and Evaluation, to discuss how MCC fits into the President’s global development policy and how its implementation can benefit from MCC’s lessons learned.
