#DOL100: Join the Conversation on Twitter

Then. Now. Next. The U.S. Labor Department has touched families and lives across the country for nearly one hundred years. From infancy, we ensure that working parents can care for newborns under the Family and Medical Leave Act. And in retirement, we’re the folks who protect your pensions.  Health and safety in the workplace? That’s us. A paycheck that just doesn’t add up? We are your first call.  Job training after a lay-off, protecting civilian jobs for returning service members, guarding against discrimination at companies that do work for the federal government? That’s us, too.

For decades, our employees have worked behind the scenes, as coal mine and gravel pit inspectors, statisticians, benefit advisors, worker compensation clerks and policy planners. And in so many instances, we’ve been ahead of the times.  Yet, our work is even more critical today.

This Friday, January 18 at 12:30 p.m. EST, Secretary Solis invites you an open house on Twitter. This is an opportunity to chat about the important services that the Department continues to provide for American workers through its various agencies. In addition, we will highlight the Department’s growth and accomplishments over the century in commemoration of our Centennial.

The agenda for the open house will include 5 minute discussions on Department resources and programs related to job-readiness and workforce development, worker protections and civil rights in the federal contractor workplace. In anticipation of many participants, we encourage you to tweet questions in advance to @HildaSolisDOL and we’ll do our best to address as many of your comments as possible.

Join the conversation Friday by using the hashtag #DOL100. We look forward to chatting with you!
