@USDOL to Host #EqualPayChat on Twitter

Join the Department of Labor (DOL) for an Equal Pay Twitter Chat Friday, April 20th at 12 pm EDT. You’ll have the chance to ask equal opportunity experts questions about the current pay gap and available resources to help women make informed career decisions. Officials from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Department of Justice (DOJ) will also take part in the discussion, as well as special guests from the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Latinos in Social Media (LATISM).

During the chat, DOL will discuss the winning apps for our recent Equal Pay App Challenge. Below are some additional topics that we can cover tomorrow via the hashtag #EqualPayChat:

  • Ask the Department of Labor (@USDOL) Women’s Bureau about their two new brochures “A Guide to Women’s Equal Pay Rights” and “An Employer’s Guide to Equal Pay.” The publications are designed to educate employees regarding their rights under the existing equal pay laws and enable employers to understand their obligations. Sara Manzano-Díaz, director of the Women’s Bureau, will be on Twitter to answer questions about what her agency is doing to ensure women and girls achieve economic security.
  • Ask Patricia Shiu, director of DOL’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) and Pamela Coukos, senior program advisor about how OFCCP is addressing pay discrimination by federal contractors or helping contractors comply with the law.
  • Turn to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (@EEOCNews) Dianna Johnston, senior attorney advisor in the Office of Legal Counsel to learn about what EEOC is doing through enforcement, training, outreach, and litigation to close the pay gap.
  • Send the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division (@CivilRights) your questions about their work to break down barriers so women have more employment opportunities. Sharyn Tejani, special litigation counsel will be on Twitter to answers questions about pay discrimination by public employers.
  • Tweet the American Association of University Women’s Lisa Maatz (@LisaMaatz), public policy and government relations director, to learn how to achieve change through legislation.
  • Check in with Latinos in Social Media (LATISM) Vice-Chair Elianne Ramos(@ergeekgoddess). She can tell you about her role as a judge for the Equal Pay App Challenge and what made the winning apps stand out.

Tweet using the hashtag #EqualPayChat on Twitter.com at 12 pm EDT to get your questions answered. Or email us before the event: womensbureaunetwork@dol.gov.

We look forward to tweeting you!
