Anytime, Anywhere, Anyone. Brain Injuries do not discriminate.
Offering Help, Hope and a Voice for People with Brain Injury and their Families
Founded in 1982 by families and concerned professionals, the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina (BIANC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that strives to create a better future for individuals who survive brain injury by providing prevention, education, support, and advocacy through services and activities. BIANC is an affiliate of the Brain Injury Association of America. Brain injury can happen from concussion, trauma, stroke, tumor, heart attack, and many other causes. Falls, car crashes, and IED blasts can also cause a traumatic brain injury (TBI). A brain injury can happen in an instant and bring a lifetime of physical, cognitive, and behavioral challenges.
Brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability among young people in North Carolina
Every hour six people in North Carolina sustain a TBI. In the next year, an average of 1.7 million Americans will sustain a TBI.
Approximately 180,000 North Carolinians are living with challenges of brain injury which would equal the population of the city of Fayetteville.

Each person with brain injury has unique needs and recovery potential. Symptoms of brain injury may not show up for weeks or months after an injury and individuals with brain injury can continue to make improvements many years after injury.
