111th Congress: Action On Taxes

 

 

During the 111th Congress, I have authored and agreed to co-sponsor the following selected measures which deal with our nation's tax structure. This is not a comprehensive list of all the legislation I have co-sponsored related to tax policy. Legislation I've supported in the 111th Congress include:

  • S.Res. 94.  A resolution designating April 2009 as "Financial Literacy Month."  Introduced March 31, 2009.
  • S. 47 and S. 71.  A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the excise tax on telephone and other communication services. Introduced January 6, 2009.
  • S. 144, A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to remove cell phones from listed property under section 280F.   Introduced January 6, 2009.
  • S. 154.  A bill to require the Congressional Budget Office and the Joint Committee on Taxation to use dynamic economic modeling in addition to static economic modeling in the preparation of budgetary estimates of proposed changes in Federal revenue law. Introduced January 6, 2009.
  • S. 279.  A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to modify the limitations on the deduction of interest by financial institutions which hold tax-exempt bonds, and for other purposes.  Introduced January 16, 2009.
  • S. 316.  A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to make permanent the reduction in the rate of tax on qualified timber gain of corporations, and for other purposes. Introduced January 26, 2009.
  • S. 394.  A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide the same capital gains treatment for art and collectibles as for other investment property and to provide that a deduction equal to fair market value shall be allowed for charitable contributions of literacy, musical, artistic, or scholarly compositions created by the donor.  Introduced February 9, 2009.
  • S. 437. A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow the deduction of attorney-advanced expenses and court costs in contingency fee cases.  February 13, 2009.
  • S. 461.  A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to extend and modify the railroad track maintenance credit. Introduced February 24, 2009.
  • S. 567.  A bill to repeal the sunset on the reduction of capital gains rates for individuals and on the taxation of dividends of individuals at capital gains rates.  Introduced March 22, 2009.
  • S. 1058.  A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to reduce the tax on beer to its pre-1991 level, and for other purposes.  Introduced May 14, 2009.
