Miscellaneous Information

ACTION NOTICE

The Action Notice is like the squadron billboard – you must read it entirely, looking for anything that pertains to you. It is posted at the south end of the hallway, at the fitness center and in each schoolhouse. It is updated twice each duty day (at 1100 and 1400). Failure to report to an appointment because you didn’t read the action notice is no excuse and will be dealt with accordingly. If an MTL needs to speak to you, if there’s a formation you need to be at, or you have a security clearance interview, it will be on the action notice. Read the entire document, even the parts that you don’t think have anything to do with you, because you never know where your name will show up.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

You can participate in numerous programs as long as you fulfill your military and academic obligations. If your language learning fails to challenge you enough, maybe one or more of the following programs will meet your needs.

  • Airman leader program
  • Joint Service Color Guard
  • Air Force Choir
  • Squadron Run Team
  • Ceremonial Drill Team
  • Air Force Band
  • Chapel Rope Program
  • Academic Tutors
  • PC Staff

If one of these programs interests you, ask your MTL and they can put you in contact with the program manager. MTLs can also answer common questions covering the programs.

MILITARY TRAINING FLIGHT RECOGNITION PROGRAM

The Military Training Flight Recognition Program was created to formally recognize and reward outstanding performance in military training. MTLs determine the selection criteria and winners are awarded for each month or quarter as applicable.

  • Top Eagle Nest Award (Dormitory of the Quarter): The winning dormitory must demonstrate and maintain the highest dormitory room and common area standards for the quarter as determined by the MTLs inspection results. Only flights who reside in the dormitories are eligible to compete for and win this award.
  • Top Eagle Flight Award (Flight of the Quarter): The winning flight demonstrates the highest personal and professional standards through their military knowledge, dress and appearance, volunteer work, and professionalism. All flights are eligible to compete for and win this award.
  • Top Eagle Award (Airman of the Quarter): All NPS airmen are eligible for this award. The winner must demonstrate Air Force Core Values, outstanding military bearing, dress and appearance, and be free of any academic or military disciplinary actions. Each flight nominee personally meets a central selection board and the board panel members select the winner.

AIRMAN LEADER PROGRAM

MTLs appoint Airmen as Airman Leaders to assist MTLs and other Airmen assigned to the squadron. Airman Leaders play a vital role to daily operations. The Airman Leader program develops quality leadership and enhances squadron management and supervision. Those selected must attend the Airman Leader Course, where they are trained to perform their duties. This training must not interfere with the students' progress in operational training. Aiguillettes (ropes) serve as distinctive insignia wear on- and off-post by Airman Leaders in uniform. Airman Leaders wear them on the left shoulder as close to the collar seam as possible. Airman Leaders represent the MTLs. You will abide by their requests and treat them with respect. If you have difficulty with a request made by an Airman Leader, perform the task, AND THEN see your MTL. Do not become argumentative or disrespectful. Airman Leaders have a very demanding job to do in addition to their language training. Disrespect or failure to follow requests made by Airman Leaders disrupts mission accomplishment and the intent of the program. The following list shows the airmen leader chain of command:

  • Flight Commander (red rope)
  • Bay Chief (yellow rope)
  • Senior Squad Leader (green rope)
  • Squad Leader (green rope)
  • T.O. rope, Dorm guard monitor, Supply Monitor, PC Monitor (green rope)

ASSIGNMENTS

Swap policy states that if you're in the regular Air Force, you may be eligible for an assignment swap with another Air Force member in your class. If you have questions, contact the CSS. When you receive your orders, you need to attend several briefings. The Transportation Management Office (TMO), located in Bldg 517, will ship your personal belongings. Contact TMO immediately upon receipt of orders. Attend all scheduled briefings and appointments; failure to do so could delay your departure. If you are departing on short notice, you must obtain a Power of Attorney for a friend to supervise your TMO pick up. If you are asked to conduct the TMO pickup for a friend, you must complete the DLI Form 806, Absence Accountability. You will not be authorized to miss class if you are in academic jeopardy. Students can only assist/conduct the TMO pick up for a friend once while at DLIFLC.

AIRCREW FLIGHT PHYSICALS

All Airmen with Flight Physicals will maintain appropriate documentation and possess a current AF Form 1042. Scheduling Flight Physicals can be done with the Medical Office or the Flight Medicine Clinic at Travis AFB. Initial Flight Physicals are good for two years while in training status.

PX SHOPPING LIST

You should try to make it up to the PX as soon as you have a free hour.  Most things you can pick up gradually as you settle in. Below is a list of recommended items to start with:

  • Alarm Clock
  • Dry erase markers for your accountability board
  • Iron
  • Ironing Board
  • Starch
  • Notebook and pen for in-processing week
  • Food - you are allowed to have food in your rooms, but see the room standards list for rules regarding food
  • 2 Pad Locks for securing your backpack and room locker

It’s your choice how much you want to buy now. You will have many more chances throughout your in-processing week. Make sure that everything you purchase is appropriate and complies with room standards. Also, don’t forget the PX is a small store. There is a full size PX and a Commissary (military grocery store) located on old Fort Ord. You can take the bus to these stores. See your MTL or Airmen Leader for more information.

ALCOHOL, DRUGS, AND TOBACCO

The use of illegal drugs or unauthorized use/possession/distribution of prescription drugs will not be tolerated in the Air Force. Any involvement with illegal drugs is punishable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) and may result in court-martial and/or discharge.

Airmen will not possess, purchase, or consume alcohol if under the age of 21. Possession/consumption of alcohol is prohibited in the dormitory and/or immediate surrounding area. Airmen of legal drinking age will not purchase alcohol for anyone under the age of 21.
