Major General Dennis L. Celletti is the Assistant Adjutant General-Army for the Joint Force Headquarters of the Illinois National Guard. He assumed this position on October 1, 2005. Celletti is the first Assistant Adjutant General-Army in Illinois history to earn the rank of major general.

As assistant adjutant general, General Celletti serves as the principal assistant to the Adjutant General in all matters pertaining to supervision and management of the Illinois Department of Military Affairs and the Illinois Army National Guard, which consists of 10,000 citizen- Soldiers.

General Celletti is also appointed as the commander of the Illinois Army National Guard. He is responsible for the Illinois Army National Guard’s overall readiness, operation, training, maintenance and logistical support and for the management, welfare, morale, discipline and safety of its members.

General Celletti entered military service in 1972, when he enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard. He commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Illinois Army National Guard in 1976 through the Illinois Military Academy Officer Candidate School.

During his more than 39 years of military service with the Illinois Army National Guard, he has held several command positions including troop commander with Troop E, 2nd Squadron, 106th Cavalry Regiment; commander of the 44th Chemical Battalion; regimental commander of the 129th Regional Training Institute; Commander, 65th Troop Command Brigade; and director of plans, operations and training (G3) for the Illinois Army National Guard. Prior to becoming Assistant Adjutant General-Army, he was the Joint Force Headquarters Chief of Staff. In addition, General Celletti served as a committee member of the Advisory Panel on Department of Defense Capabilities for Support of Civil Authorities after certain incidents reporting to the Secretary of Defense and U.S. Senate.

General Celletti’s professional military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Armor Officer Basic Course, Armor Officer Advance Course, Chemical Officer Advance Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, the Joint Task Force Commander Course and the U. S. Army War College. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois and a master’s degree in Homeland Security from American Military University, Charlestown, West Virginia. General Celletti is National Fellow of National Security Studies of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University, N.Y.

General Celletti’s military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Humanitarian Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Oversea Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Gold Hour Glass, Army Service Ribbon, Illinois Long and Honorable Service with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters Illinois Military Attendance Ribbon with Numeral 12, and Illinois State Active Duty Ribbon with Numeral 2.
