Executive Board

The Executive Board is one of UNESCO’s three constitutional organs (along with the General Conference and the Secretariat.) Acting under the authority of the General Conference, the Executive Board meets twice a year to examine the implementation of UNESCO’s programs.

Elected by UNESCO’s General Conference, the Executive Board consists of 58 Member States, each of which holds a four-year term of office. The United States is a member of the Executive Board, with its current term expiring in 2015.

The Executive Board provides the occasion for the United States to reaffirm its policy with respect to UNESCO and its programs, through a formal statement made by the Ambassador.
