Fans of Alaska who visited the American Center on February 26th admired pelts from a black bear and a polar bear. The bear skins and free ice cream bars were just the beginning of a program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of statehood for the largest US state.

Over one hundred visitors watched the documentary film “Alaska” and a slideshow by renowned Czech wildlife photographer Rostislav Stach, whose photographs and storytelling showcased Alaska’s wild beauty.

Zoologist Evzen Kus explained bear behavior and provided advice on how to survive a close encounter with a grizzly bear. Visitors also heard a lecture about Alaska’s rich history from Pavel Novak.
