Madeleine Albright and NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen present the recommendations of the Group of Experts at the joint press conference

Madeleine Albright and NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen present the recommendations of the group of experts.

May 18, 2010 — NATO’s Strategic Concept drafted by the “Group of Experts" led by Madeleine Albright was released on May 17.  The report includes analyses and recommendations for a new Strategic Concept compiled through a series of consultations with Allied and partner capitals and publics through meetings and town hall events, both online and in person, over the past few months.

The Czech expert on the team, the London Center for European Policy's Tomáš Valášek, said for Lidové noviny: “The new policy toward Russia combines two factors – the engagement of Russia into NATO activities; and assurance to new NATO members that an enhanced relationship with Russia will not ignore their safety concerns and interests.”

Issues that the Group of Experts have addressed in this report, and that we expect the Strategic Concept to address, include the importance of a strengthened transatlantic relationship and partnerships with countries across the globe; missions including Afghanistan and Kosovo; missile defense of troops and territory; the role of nuclear weapons; terrorism; cyber and energy security.
