All participants in the R&R Leave Program are reminded that participation in the program is at the commander's discretion. That is, the final decision of who can participate in the program rests with the commander and is based upon mission requirements; therefore, not all eligible personnel may be able to participate in the program. Questions regarding eligibility rules and the application of leave policies should be addressed to your chain of command within theater.

On April 30, 2004, the Dept. of the Army introduced an initiative that provides its severely wounded Soldiers and their families with a system of advocacy and personal support to assist them as they transition from military service to the civilian community.
Known as the U.S. Army Wounded Warrior Program (AW2), the initiative incorporates and integrates several existing programs to provide Gold Star support services for wounded Soldiers and their families throughout their phased progression from initial casualty notification to return to their homes. In addition, AW2 tracks and monitors our severely wounded Soldiers for a period of five years beyond their medical retirement in order to provide appropriate assistance through an array of existing service providers.

Every member who has SGLI also has TSGLI effective Dec. 1, 2005. This coverage applies to active duty members, reservists, funeral honors duty and one-day muster duty. This benefit is also provided retroactively for members who incur severe losses as a result of a traumatic injury between Oct. 7, 2001 and Dec. 1, 2005 if the loss was the direct result of injuries incurred in Operations Enduring Freedom or Iraqi Freedom.
