Kirkuk
The Kirkuk Provincial Reconstruction Team is responsible for the broad implementation of U.S. policy in an ethnically and religiously diverse province. It is the primary civilian platform for U.S. Government efforts to increase ethnic tolerance; to develop a sustainable economy; to strengthen the rule of law, and to create partnerships to build durable political solutions to status and land disputes, as well as for internally displaced persons. Since 2004, the PRT has helped to implement U.S. financial assistance within the province. The Kirkuk PRT is led by a senior State Department Foreign Service Officer who oversees civilian team members, representing the Departments of State, Agriculture, Justice and the U.S. Agency for International Development. The civilian staff is augmented by members of the U.S. military, as well as by locally-engaged staff.
