Laboratory Directed Research and Development

The Department of Energy’s Engine of Discovery

Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) supports cutting-edge research at the Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration national laboratories. LDRD is indispensible to the DOE/NNSA laboratories in its ability to maintain the scientific and technical vitality of these vital national research assets; to enhance the laboratories’ ability to address current and future DOE/NNSA missions; to foster creativity and stimulate exploration of forefront science and technology; to serve as a proving ground for new concepts in research and development; and to support high-risk, potentially high-value research and development.
