Michael Novak

Director, Office of Congressional and Public Affairs

Michael Novak was sworn in as Director, Office of Congressional and Public Affairs for the Maritime Administration on August 6, 2012.

Prior to his appointment at MARAD, Michael represented all Oregon cities as their primary advocate on financial policy and economic development issues and served as a board member of the Oregon Economic Development Association. As a Government Relations Specialist with Sound Transit from 2002 to 2005, he advanced the agency’s interests with elected officials, business, and other communities in the Puget Sound area. In addition to extensive electoral experience at every level across the US and service as an international election monitor, Michael spent time in the late 1990’s working on Capitol Hill with Congressman John Dingell and Congressman David Bonior, both of Michigan.

Born and raised in Salem OR, Michael received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Oregon and a Masters from New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service. He lives in Bethesda, MD with his wife Tiffany and their new daughter.
