8 steps to apply for your visa

  • Passport
    Passport

    Valid at least six month after the end of your travel to the U.S. Children must have their own passport, even if traveling with a parent.

  • photo requirements
    Have your photo taken

    5cm * 5cm, not retouched, showing both your ears, taken within the last 6 month. Check the photo specifications.
    Bring your picture for the interview (even if you did load a picture in the DS-160).

  • Prepare your documents listed in the Visa Type section
    Prepare your documents

    Find the required documents list in Visa Type.
    Do NOT send document by mail, email or fax to the Consular Section. We do not keep any documentation. Instead, you must bring with you all documentation during your interview. The Consular Officer will request to see the documents that are relevant for your case.

  • Consular Electronic Application Center website
    Fill your DS-160 application on-line
    on the Consular Electronic Application Center website and PRINT the confirmation page (barcode).

    Applicants applying for Fiancee Visas and Treaty Trader/Treaty Investor Visas should not use DS-160 and must instead use Form DS-156.
  • Schedule of fees and how to pay
    Pay the application fee at Citibank

    If applicable, also pay SEVIS fee.

  • Make an appointment on-line in Hanoi
    Make an appointment on-line
    PRINT the confirmation page (confirmation ID).
    If you apply with your family, make an appointment for each member on the same day.

  • Come for the interview

    Do not arrive earlier than 20 minutes before or after your scheduled appointment.
    Minors under the age of 17 MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to the interview.

  • Receive your passport & visa from EMS
    Receive your passport & visa from EMS

    If your visa is approved, your visa will be delivered by EMS express courier service, normally within three business days. The delivery fee is available on EMS website. This fee is payable only in VND cash.

    Visa status check: Effectively immediately, applicants can view the status of their visa cases from the CEAC launch page. 

Warning

  • Due to new security regulations, some applications may require additional clearance and longer processing. Since the application process cannot be accelerated, we recommend that you apply well in advance of your travel dates, and do not purchase plane tickets until you have received your visa.

    Visa applicants should never assume their application will be automatically approved.
