Sonohysterogram

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE OBTAINED A NEGATIVE PREGNANCY TEST WITHIN 24 HOURS OF YOUR SCHEDULED EXAM (If your last pregnancy test was obtained more than 24 hours prior to the exam, it must be repeated or we cannot perform the exam.) The optimal time to perform this examination is in a menstruating woman, after the bleeding ends, but not prior to ovulation. Your exam should be scheduled 5-12 days after the 1st day of your last period. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact us.

A Sonohysterogram is very similar to an HSG and involves placement of a sterile speculum into the vagina followed by catheterization of the cervix and uterus. Once the catheter is in place, sterile saline is injected into the uterus and 2-3 minutes of imaging time is required to obtain the necessary images. Expect some spotting and some fluid draining after the procedure for 1-2 days. The total amount of time you will be in the department is approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
