Cast and Wrought Iron Pipeline Inventory

Cast and Wrought Iron Pipeline Inventory

The inventory below contains information about cast and wrought iron pipelines for each state in which iron pipe was reported. The first table shows the most current data for miles of natural gas distribution main and service line counts. Distribution mains are natural gas distribution pipelines that serve as a common source of supply for more than one service line. Service lines are the pipelines that transport gas to a customer’s gas meter or piping. The table is sorted by the number of miles of cast or wrought iron gas distribution main, but can be sorted by any of the columns.

Charts show the change in main miles and service line counts over the years. Nationally, iron distribution main mileage has decreased by 16 percent from 2004 to 2011. The number of cast or wrought iron service lines has decreased by 66 percent over the same time period. The last report shows data for each operator that reported cast and wrought iron facilities since 2004.

All of the reports can be limited to a single state by using the state prompt at the top. States not included in the drop-down have had no operator reports including iron pipe since 2004. The “top 10” states and operators are listed below the reports.
