The Structural Biology Center (SBC) operates and maintains a state-of-the-art national user facility for macromolecular x-ray crystallography at the Advanced Photon Source (APS).

The SBC supports a vigorous user program and conducts research to enhance the capabilities of the central components of the SBC facility. SBC is taking advantage of advances and improvements in automation and robotics, to develop and implement advanced beamline software, hardware, methods, user training and operation protocols.

The SBC staff carries out full-scale user support, software development and improvements, beamline hardware development and crystallographic experiments pertinent to the goals of the SBC user facility.

SBC maintains an advanced, vibrant, exciting, productive and successful national user program that will result in the enhancement of structural biology capabilities and increased access to synchrotron beamlines.

SBC is upgrading it’s facility to a modern state comparable to the best synchrotron facilities used for macromolecular x-ray crystallography in the world.
