A new weekly Real Warriors Campaign podcast series, “Real Warriors, Real Advice,” wants your attention. With service members, veterans and military families lending their voices and personal stories, the podcasts stress the importance of seeking psychological health care and developing resilience.

“The campaign’s podcasts are a great resource to connect with audiences and share the message that seeking care or support is a sign of strength that benefits the entire military community,” said Col. Christopher Robinson, Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE), deputy director for psychological health. “It’s so valuable to hear warriors share their knowledge, experiences and best practices for building and maintaining psychological resilience.”

The first episode, “Reaching Out For Support,” features Marine Staff Sgt. Josh Hopper’s story of reaching out for care and his message encouraging others coping with invisible wounds to seek support. “I had more help than I could have asked for from my entire command,” he said. “It’s up to you: if you want to get better … you’re going to get better from it as long as you get the help and give [the] treatment plan you're in a shot.”

Recent podcasts include “Creating New Norms of Care,” which emphasizes that reaching out for support is the way to effectively cope with psychological health concerns no matter your rank; “Leaders are There to Help,” identifies leaders across the chain of command as important resources for warriors seeking psychological health care or support; and “Family Members Can Be Important Advocates,” emphasizes the support family members can provide to a service member coping with invisible wounds.

Each episode runs about two minutes long, and ends by reminding people where they can get 24/7 help: realwarriors.net and DCoE Outreach Center at 866-966-1020 or resources@dcoeoutreach.org.
