Key Issues Concerning Implementation of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act

Summary

The Inspector General testified before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation regarding challenges facing the Transportation Security Administration in implementing the Aviation and Transportation Security Act. The IG said the agency is making progress but faces significant efforts in the following areas: hiring and training a workforce, installing explosives detection systems to screen all checked baggage, and addressing budget challenges.
