Tim A. Feavel was promoted to manager Jan. 13 after serving 21 years as a natural resource specialist and park ranger at the Chena Project. He now is responsible for operating and maintaining Moose Creek Dam, which protects Fairbanks and surrounding communities from flooding as well as managing natural resources and recreation on the project’s 20,000-acre land base.

Bobber the Water Safety Dog arrived at the Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project in November. With his new residence, he plans to stay busy with water safety training in the local elementary schools and sharing his message at parades, the fair and at other local events.

Tribal members and official party members gather to dedicate the Dena’ina Cache and Signage Display located on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardon near the intersection of Post Road and Arctic Warrior Drive Oct. 5. The cache and display were constructed by the Native Village of Eklutna, the federally-recognized tribe closest to JBER. The project was funded by the Air Force while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Alaska District provided project management and contract administration.

Air Force Maj. Kerry Colburn, Defense Logistics Agency Energy-Alaska commander; Navy Capt. Kevin Henderson, Defense Logistics Agency Energy-Pacific commander; and Col. Christopher Lestochi, Alaska District commander, officially open the renovated DLA Energy-Alaska petroleum laboratory during a ceremony at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Sept. 12. The district managed the renovation of the 1950s-era lab, which is used to test fuels for military and other federal customers to ensure they meet or exceed military specifications.
