PCU 2: Integration and Display of Data

Description of Job Duty Competency to be Achieved

Demonstrate an ability to integrate and display AWIPS hydrometeorological data (from a software perspective).


Description of Need

AWIPS provides a variety of software applications that display and integrate the hydrometeorological data available within AWIPS. Users must know how to use the software functionality of these various applications so that they can use the information displayed by these applications to produce the products and services that their job requires.


Specific Job Task Skills and Knowledge

1. Demonstrate an ability to display information and data using the Display 2-Dimensions (D2D) application, and be able to troubleshoot problems with this application.

2. Demonstrate an ability to display information and data using the WFO Hydrologic Forecast System (WHFS) application, and be able to troubleshoot problems with this application.

3. Demonstrate an ability to display information and data using the Interactive Forecast Preparation System (IFPS) application, and be able to troubleshoot problems with this application.

4. Demonstrate an ability to display information and data using display applications other than those listed in tasks (1) through (3), and be able to troubleshoot problems with these application.

5. Demonstrate an ability to create and use procedures and local applications available within AWIPS.

6. Demonstrate an ability to use the AWIPS text browser to retrieve products and data.


Instructional Components

Instructional Component 2.1: Complete the local office version of the AWIPS On-Station Users Training (OUT) for general AWIPS operation and D2D functionality, making use of available users manuals. [1]

Instructional Component 2.2: Complete the local office training on WHFS. This training is based on the train-the-trainer material and WHFS Workshop training that the local hydrologic focal point received. [2]

Instructional Component 2.3: Complete the local office training on IFPS. This training is based on the train-the-trainer material anIFPS Workshop training that the local focal point received. (To be developed) [3]

Instructional Component 2.4: Complete local training in the use of the AWIPS text browser and the use of procedures and local applications. [5,6]


Proposed Evaluation

Evaluation 2.1: Each Instructional Component (IC) will include an evaluation segment that will address the main points of the module.

Evaluation 2.2: The overall impact of these ICs will be evaluated subjectively in terms of an AWIPS user's ability to use D2D, WHFS, anIFPS to prepare forecast and warning products.
