Develop basic Unix skills for the purpose of developing local applications.
Unix is the basic operating system for AWIPS. Therefore, developers must apply Unix skills effectively to develop, install, and maintain local applications.
1. Ability to work within the UNIX Operating System environment utilizing basic UNIX commands.
2. Ability to edit program and other text files using a file editor such as vi or dtpad
3. Familiarity with the HP-UX GUI environment - CDE.
4. Understanding of networking fundamentals and ability to use networking tools.
Instructional Component 5.1: Basic UNIX O/S Skills: AWIPS Lending Library and/or Obtained from commercial sources
Instructional Component 5.2: Editing Files: Basic skills with a text editor obtained from commercial sources.
Instructional Component 5.3: CDE: Use of the CDE GUI environment obtained from commercial sources.
Instructional Component 5.4: Networking Fundamentals (ftp, telnet, rcp, rlogin, etc.): WBT - DataComms/Networking and/or NWSTC Lending Library and/or Obtained from commercial sources.
