Office Management and Administration

PCU 2: Information Technology

Description of Job Duty Competency to be Achieved

Utilize Information Technology (IT) to support office administration operations and services.


Description of Need

Offices must maintain state-of-the-art competency on all IT systems.


Specific Job Task Skills and Knowledge

1. Use the Internet/Intranet for information gathering and dissemination.

2. Retrieve and send electronic mail messages.

3. Be proficient in the use of basic office hardware and software (i.e. fax machines, telephone, presentation software, etc.).

4. Have basic computer skills, i.e.,

  • Ability to use NWS computer systems and software.
  • Ability to reboot / restart systems.
  • Basic troubleshooting of NWS systems; identifying hardware/software/comms problems.

  • Instructional Components

    Instructional Component 2.1: Local area short-courses on software (local colleges, private sector groups, etc.)

    Instructional Component 2.2: Web-based module on agency IT requirements (e.g., passwords, department/agency policies, etc.)
