FEBRUARY 2013
The U.S. Embassy in Bogota is pleased to announce that applicants whose visa applications have been refused under Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act because more information or administrative processing is required, may now check the status of their cases online! Applicants do not need to contact the Embassy directly, but may follow the instructions outlined on our Visa Application Status page to check the status.

SEPTEMBER 2011
U.S. Embassy Bogota has launched Online Visa Appointment and Delivery System effective September 28, 2011.

The United States Embassy in Bogota is pleased to announce that it has put into operation a new online appointment system designed to make the visa application process faster, simpler and more accessible.

Effective September 28, visa applicants can schedule their visa appointments via a new website or through the assistance of an operator through a new call center. It will no longer be necessary to purchase a PIN.  With our new system, available in both Spanish and English, visitors are now able to:

  • View an easy-to-read calendar format that allows applicants to select a convenient date and time for their non-immigrant visa appointments.
  • Reschedule (NIV) appointments or make cancellations.
  • Arrange free delivery of passports/visas to more than 20 DHL locations in 9 cities throughout Colombia.

Home delivery is available at an additional charge in some larger cities. Applicants residing in other areas will need to make arrangements to pick up their passports from one of more than 20 locations in nine principal cities in Colombia.

The system also gives applicants the option to pay the non-immigrant visa application fee by credit card.  Additionally, applicants no longer have to take the extra step and expense of purchasing an appointment pin number as well as organizing passport/visa delivery following the interview.

The new visa appointment system was designed to make it easier for visitors to the United States to apply for non-immigrant visas.  Because delivery arrangements are made in advance, time spent in the Embassy the day of interview is now shorter.
