Disagree with the overpayment

What do I do if I disagree with an overpayment?

If you disagree with an overpayment, you can request a review.  This is called an appeal.  The request for an appeal must be made in writing within 60 days from the date of the notice you received.  Under certain conditions an extension of this time frame can be granted.  If you wish, you may use the Form SSA-561 to file your appeal.

For additional information, see:

The Appeals Process (Publication No. 05-10041)
