Tax requirements for SSI benefits

Are Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits taxable?

SSI payments are not subject to Federal taxes so you will not receive an annual form SSA-1099.

However, if you also receive Social Security benefits, they may be subject to income taxes.

If you wish to have Federal taxes withheld from your Social Security benefits, see the question: How do I get a form to have income taxes withheld from my Social Security check?
