Our work

USAID has been on the ground in Haiti and working to help the people of Haiti improve their social and economic wellbeing for almost 50 years.

Before the earthquake, USAID programs focused on furthering Haiti's economic development, improving its healthcare system, heightening its security, and promoting just and democratic governance. Just before the earthquake, many development experts believed that Haiti was finally beginning to turn the corner on the problems that had plagued it for so much of its history.

Our goals remain unchanged in the aftermath of the earthquake, but our efforts reflect the realities of post-earthquake Haiti.
