Activity at Kilauea Volcano has not changed significantly at the summit or east rift zone since 6 a.m. The summit shows only slight inflation and tremor levels continue to decrease.
In the upper east rift zone fewer than about 10 small earthquakes per hour are being recorded. However, since noon tremor levels have increased in the Kane Nui o Hamo area.
At Pu`u `O`o a tiltmeter continues to indicate steady collapse of the cone. The Puka Nui, West Gap, main-crater features of Pu`u `O`o have collapsed and coalesced into an interconnected pit. There is no indication of any new lava outbreaks at Pu`u `O`o.
SO2 emission rate at the summit has decreased slightly since yesterday but is still elevated with respect to pre-event levels. Ambient SO2 concentrations around Halemaumau remain elevated and present a hazard for some individuals. CO2 emission rate at the summit has not changed significantly from pre-event levels.
SO2 emissions from the new source on east rift were measured along the Chain of Craters road.
