Responsible Information Sharing: Engaging Industry to Improve Standards-Based Acquisition and Interoperability
- Published by Kathleen Turco on Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 under Acquisition,Collaboration,Information Sharing,Policy,Standards,Vision
Responsible information sharing is at the forefront of collaboration between industry and government. The reason for this is simple: government and industry must work together to develop specific IT standards that will simplify and speed up the acquisition process, while ensuring that different systems have the ability to exchange data.
To this end, GSA and the Office of the Program Manager for the Information Sharing Environment collaborated with the American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) to develop a white paper on proposed interoperability standards in an effort to drive both government and industry to define and adopt standards to be used in acquisition. The paper provides a roadmap towards this goal and asks industry and government to work together to develop standards that will:
- Guide adherence to government regulations and policy
- Reduce government duplication and spending
- Reduce vendor development and marketing costs
The responsible sharing of information – whether intelligence, financial, or other data — extends to all levels of government, including federal, state, local, tribal and territorial governments, along with private sector partners. The federal government is now poised to standardize the sharing of information and must determine specific standards upon which all can agree. By working together to share information, we can all work toward a more collaborative partnership in the future. New Tool from OGP for locating Federal Meeting Facilities
- Published by Kathleen Turco on Tuesday, September 4th, 2012 under Committee,Federal building,Real property,Sustainability,Transportation,Travel
The Federal Meeting Facilities site was designed by GSA’s Office of Government-wide Policy to collect and display Federal meeting space nationwide. To comply with Executive Order (EO) 13589, Promoting Efficient Spending, GSA’s Office of Government-wide Policy developed a Federal Meeting Facilities Tool designed to collect and display Federal meeting space nationwide. This web-based tool allows Federal agencies to maximize the shared use of Federal facilities. Federal agencies provide this information to ensure accuracy of data. GSA is available to work very closely with each agency to help agency representatives populate this tool. Don’t see your meeting space? – contact Pathina.Fitzgerald@gsa.gov and she will provide access to enter your meeting space in the web-based tool. Let us know what you think of this new tool!

Public Listening Sessions to be held for Green Building Certification System Review
- Published by Kathleen Turco on Thursday, May 31st, 2012 under Certification,Collaboration,Committee,Federal building,Real property,Standards,Sustainability,Vision
OGP’s Office of Federal High Performance Green Buildings (OFHPGB) recently published an evaluation of three green building certification systems in the U.S. against Federal performance requirements relating to energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, water use, waste reduction, materials use and employee commuting for all Federal facilities. The report shows that none of the systems cover 100 percent of Federal green building requirements for new construction, major renovations, or existing buildings. See www.gsa.gov/gbcertificationreview.
Recognizing the high level of Federal and private sector interest in this review OFHPGB is teaming with the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense to co-chair an interagency task force to work through issues around Federal building performance requirements and the use of certification systems. Agencies with large portfolio holdings and with special expertise in building performance requirements are participating in the closed-door deliberations. Outcomes from the sessions will be published in the Federal Register before final determinations are made by GSA, DoD and DOE in the fall.
Two listening sessions are planned to solicit input from the public while deliberations are underway. The first is scheduled for June 25 as an in-person session in Washington, DC, and the second, a virtual online session, is scheduled for July 10. Advanced reservations will be requested for both sessions. Contacts: Joni Teter joni.teter@gsa.gov 303.880.0384 and Bryan Steverson bryan.steverson@gsa.gov 202.501.6115
