VA BLACK HILLS HEALTH CARE
The VA Black Hills Health Care System (BHHCS) is affiliated with the University of South Dakota School of Medicine, South Dakota State University Colleges of Pharmacy and Nursing, and Western Dakota Technical Institute. Our affiliations with these and other educational institutions provide intensive training experiences and continuing education for registered nurses, psychologist, physicians, pharmacists, podiatrists, counselors, occupational and manual arts therapists, and social workers.
The VA Black Hills Health Care System is located in the beautiful Black Hills of western South Dakota, where we are known for our blue skies, pine forests, rich history, moderate climate and friendly western hospitality.
The VA BHHCS is staffed with over 600 full and part-time employees. Staff physicians and consultants provide health care in a number of major specialties. The medical center staff is supplemented with volunteers from local and national service organizations, which provide a variety of services to patients.
VA Black Hills provides primary and secondary medical and surgical care, along with residential rehabilitation treatment program (RRTP) services, extended nursing home care and tertiary psychiatric inpatient care services, for veterans residing in South Dakota and portions of Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota and Montana. Care to over 20,000 veterans is delivered though the Fort Meade (near Sturgis) and Hot Springs VA Medical Centers, as well as through a number of community based outpatient and rural health clinics. VA Black Hills is a part of the VA Midwest Health Care Network.
