Partnerships

In this complex, globalized, post 9/11 world, our operational partnerships have never been more important to our efforts to protect your communities.

Today, we work with colleagues at every level of government—local, state, federal, even international—across the law enforcement, intelligence, and first responder communities. We lead and take part in multi-agency task forces, intelligence groups and fusion centers, and public and private sector alliances. A number of our partners literally sit shoulder-to-shoulder with us in FBI space, just as we share our agents and analysts with other agencies. We work closely on joint investigations—sometimes taking the lead, sometimes taking a back seat to others, sometimes contributing equally among many agencies. Our work with our colleagues, in fact, is so intertwined today that it’s often nearly impossible to separate the contributions of one agency—and one nation—from the next.

In Memphis, our major partnerships include:

  • The Memphis Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) brings together representatives from 38 local, state, and federal agencies to resolve any and all terrorism leads, develop and investigate cases, provide support for special events, and proactively identify local, transnational, and international threats. An annex JTTF located in Nashville provides coverage for the middle portion of the state.
  • The Memphis Field Intelligence Group is a team of FBI agents and analysts who provide a full range of intelligence support on terrorism and criminal threats. The field intelligence group works with the Tennessee Fusion Center, which supports law enforcement and intelligence partners throughout the state.
  • The Memphis Division participates in the FBI Counterintelligence Domain Program, a national partnership between private industry, academia, government agencies, the FBI, and its counterintelligence community partners to identify and protect projects of great importance to the U.S. government.
  • To battle cyber crime, we have a number of key partnerships:
  • Our Joint Cyber Crime Task Force in Nashville brings together local, state, and federal experts to combat computer intrusions, viruses, and other cyber threats.
  • Our multi-agency Crimes Against Children Task Force combats crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children. In one of its most successful preventative measures, task force members pose as teenagers in online undercover operations to catch predators before they strike.
  • The Memphis and Nashville InfraGard Chapters are the local arms of a national information-sharing alliance between private industry, academia, and government focused on protecting critical national infrastructures in both the online and offline worlds.
  • To address white-collar crime, we have a number of key partnerships:
  • In the Law Enforcement Corruption Street Task Force, our agents team with personnel from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Memphis Police Department, combining expertise and resources to tackle public corruption within law enforcement in the area.
  • Our Mortgage Fraud Task Force joins our personnel with investigators from the Memphis Police Department, the U.S. Postal Service, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Inspector General to investigate the growing number of fraudulent mortgages in the Memphis area.
  • We also lead or take part in several major partnerships targeting violent crime:
  • Our Memphis Safe Street Task Force combines our agents with personnel from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Memphis Police Department to pool expertise and resources in targeting violent criminals and street gangs and violators of the Hobbs Act.
  • Our Memphis Cargo Task Force works to target cargo theft and the criminals who prey on trucking and transport companies that use the major nation-crossing highways in and around the Memphis area.
