Guide to Defining Video Quality Requirements

Revised May 29, 2012
Section 2 of 11 of step 3 -- Understand System Tasks and System Functions -- in the bar chart highlighing the 4-step process for definfing video quality requirements.

Acquire Video

The acquire task includes the focus and capture functions of a camera system, and may also include a built-in CODEC, which can perform the processing function’s encoding/decoding operations. However, in some video systems, such as those used for surveillance applications, the encode operation might be performed in a separate IT space.

The demarcation between the acquire and deliver tasks can vary.

Illustrates the Acquire functions of a video system.

In Example 1, the acquire task, or camera system, includes the encode operation, which is part of the processing function. In Example 2, the the camera system does not include the encode operation.
