About the Coast Guard Compass
Welcome to the Coast Guard Compass, the Official Blog of the United States Coast Guard.
Coast Guard Compass is the Service’s flagship social media product and the centerpiece of our effort to engage the public in an ongoing dialogue about the Coast Guard’s people, missions and the issues that impact America’s maritime safety, stewardship and security.
The official Coast Guard blog allows us to ‘listen’ to what you have to say and consider your feedback (and the occasional criticism) on how we do business as part of a larger organizational growth process. This engagement is at the core of why the Coast Guard operates in the social media world.
Coast Guard Compass is produced by the Coast Guard Headquarters Social Media Team with help from public affairs professionals throughout the Service and the occasional post by our senior leaders (including the Commandant of the Coast Guard).
We will work to bring you the latest news but also the human side of the nation’s longest-serving seagoing service.

Coast Guard Compass Comment Policy
We welcome your comments on postings at all Coast Guard sites/journals. These are sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard to provide a forum to talk about our work providing maritime safety, security and stewardship for the American people to secure the homeland, save lives and property, protect the environment, and promote economic prosperity.

Correction and Update Policy
We work very hard at Coast Guard Compass to ensure the information we provide our readers is completely accurate and conveyed in the proper context to enhance the public’s appreciation for and knowledge of the United States Coast Guard as well as our people, missions and the issues that impact America’s maritime safety, stewardship and security.
Despite this commitment, we will want to update information in a story or acknowledge that we make mistakes from time to time. When we do, we’ll make every effort to correct and/or update them in a timely manner. Changes to things like spelling and punctuation edits will be made ‘behind the scenes’, but factual or contextual errors, to include names, dates, or places and additional information will be flagged with an “UPDATE” to the post.
