History lovers met at an almost-forgotten monument on Putney Heath in Wandsworth on Saturday October 16. Joined by Justine Greening MP and the Mayor of Wandsworth, Piers Conolly McCausland, they gathered to celebrate the completion of conservation work on a 234-year-old obelisk.

Erected in 1776 it commemorates Member of Parliament David Hartley.  Hartley, signed the Treaty of Paris for the UK Government, which formally ended the American War of Independence. The restoration was completed using money raised by the group Daughters of the American Revolution.
