Goal / Mission

OAA’s primary mandate is to promote and facilitate exports of U.S. agricultural products.

Basic Facts about Section / Agency

  • OAA depends on the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
  • OAA is under the supervision of a regional FAS attaché based in Rabat, Morocco.

What We Do

  • Maintain close contact with Tunisian Agriculture Government Officials as well as public and private agribusinesses.
  • Assist U.S. exporters to make business contacts and understand the Tunisian market.
  • Recruit and sponsor potential buyers to visit U.S. food shows and organize marketing events.
  • Work closely with USDA-sponsored industry organizations such as U.S. Wheat Associates, U.S. Grains Council to sponsor several outreach activities.
  • Manage USDA’s credit guarantee programs and several fellowship programs such as the Cochran Fellowship Program.

Some Figures

  • In 2010, U.S. agricultural exports to Tunisia reached $265 million, a record high.
  • The majority of Tunisia’s agricultural exports to the United States in 2010 ($88 million) was olive oil.
  • Absorbing about 26 percent of Tunisia's olive oil exports in 2010, the USA was the second largest destination (after the EU market) for Tunisian olive oil exports.
