Call for Organized Session Proposals for Mid-Atlantic Chapter Meeting 9/21/12

Wetland Issues in the Mid-Atlantic

The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists is soliciting proposals for organized sessions for our chapter meeting, Wetland Issues in the Mid-Atlantic to be held December 6-7, 2012 at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. The meeting will focus on the diverse resource issues of wetlands in the Mid Atlantic Chapter Region and will include a special session honoring the life and work of Dr. Joan Ehrenfeld.

Our objective for the meeting is to promote communication between professionals and students conducting studies and managing resources in urban, rural, and natural settings.

Suggested sessions for the Chapter Meeting include, but are not limited to:
· Wetland Science: Flora, Fauna, Soils, Wetland Hydrology, Landscape Processes, Mapping, Climate Change;
· Wetland Management: Treatment Wetlands, Stormwater Management, Sea Level Rise, Water Quality, Ecosystem Services and Functions, Regulation; and
· Society: Recreation, Socio-economics, TMDLs, and other relevant topics of interest.

Please create a session proposal and help us build a strong program for our joint chapter meeting!

Organized Session Proposals and Individual Poster and Oral Presentation abstracts are being solicited for inclusion in the program. Presentations will be 20 minutes long including 5 minutes for questions. Our intent is to avoid concurrent session presentations. We are also soliciting volunteers to organize a local field trip.

Please email your proposal to David Merkey (dmerkey@gpinet.com) by October 12, 2012. Speakers in each will be asked to submit an abstract for their talk in response to the general call for abstracts coming soon.

SWS Thesis Database 7/17/12

The SWS Thesis Database a repository for Ph.D., Master's, and Bachelor's/Senior theses on wetlands that are authored by students who are SWS members. It is being continuously updated as students add their work. Even if the work was completed before the “electronic age” and was not (or only partially) published, authors can upload the information to this database and create a PDF version of their thesis that can be accessed electronically. The primary goals of this database are to make the student’s work readily and more quickly accessible to the SWS membership and provide a platform where student research can be made more visible to the wetland community. In the case where the research was never published, this is a good opportunity to get your work out there and recognized for your efforts. Please go to http://www.sws.org/student_thesis/ to login to the SWS webpage and post a thesis.
