School Lunch Program

School lunches are served on a daily basis here at PHES. Students are welcome to bring their own lunch. Sometimes changes are made to the AAFES lunch menu. Any changes that are made will be posted on links below.

Lunch coupons can be purchased at the PX or Shopette. Students can also bring cash but they may be required to stand in line slightly longer. We encourage students and parents to use lunch coupons instead of cash.

AAFES is using the Horizon automated pay system for the lunch program at the Heidelberg schools.

What does this mean for your child/children?

  • No more lunch tickets
  • No visible difference between free/reduced or full pay lunches
  • No cash necessary

What does it mean for you?

  • You can monitor your child's eating habits
  • You will be informed by mail when an account needs payment
  • You can make payments at any cashier's cage or at your child's school
  • You can set a daily spending limit
  • You can check all transactions with a report available at your child’s school cafeteria

How does the Horizon automated Pay system work?
To open an account an application form must be filled out for each school age child. Your child's information will be entered into the automated pay system and your child will receive a unique 4-digit pin number. The Horizon automated pay system works very similar to a bank account: payments made are credited directly to your child’s account and the account is debited for the purchases made. In the event your child’s account does not have sufficient funds available, you will be notified in writing of the negative balance. You will be able to check the account balances and make payments at the cashier's cage in the Heidelberg Main Store, at the PHV Shoppette and at the school your child attends.

Some school cafeterias offer snacks and a la carte items that are not part of the lunch menu. The Horizon system allows you to block or limit the purchase of such items. The school cafeteria will continue to accept your lunch tickets during this school year or, if you prefer, you can have them credited to your child’s account at the Heidelberg Main Store or at the PHV Shoppette. After the installation of the Horizon equipment lunch tickets will no longer be available for purchase at the AAFES stores in Heidelberg. Parents who decide not to open a school lunch account for their children can still pay cash for their child's meals, however this does not apply to those who qualify for free/reduced lunches. Students participating in the free/reduced lunch program must have an account in the Horizon automated pay system.

Below you will find a link for the application you can fill out and return by e-mail to the following address: yyeuHeidelbergSchoolFeeding@aafes.com Hard copies of the application form will also be made available at the school administration offices, at the school cafeterias and at the cashier's cages at the Heidelberg Main Store and PHV Shoppette. To ensure privacy, hard copies of the filled out applications can only be accepted at the cashier's cage at the PHV Shoppette. Please prepare one form for each school age child. As soon as the Horizon equipment installation is complete, your child's account will be opened and you will be notified of the pin number.
