The members of the Air National Guard Band of the Central States 

Today's Band of The Central States is comprised of 35 musicians. All members may perform together for special concerts, parades, and other events, or they may be subdivided into several smaller autonomous units and performing groups to satisfy local, major command, and regional needs. For added flexibility, The Band of the Central States can utilize various vocal ensembles, protocol combos and individual musicians.

tabCommander/Conductor 
Captain John ArataMajor John Arata, Commander/Conductor, entered military service in 1999 and the Air Force in 2002. He is a distinguished graduate of the Academy of Military Science, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tennessee and the United States Army Training Center, Fort Jackson, South Carolina.  His decorations include the Air Force Achievement Medal, the National Defense Ribbon, the Global War on Terroism Ribbon, the Air Force Training Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster, the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon and the Army Sharpshooter Badge.  Read full biography
tabSidewinder Rock Ensemble 
TSgt Kevin MaretTechnical Sergeant Kevin Maret is the Music Director/Non Commissioned Officer-In-Charge of Sidewinder rock band. TSgt Maret is also the percussionist for Sidewinder, The Sounds of Freedom Jazz Ensemble, Marching Band, Ceremonial Band and the Concert Band.

TSgt Maret's career in the Air Force Music programs began in 2002 at Offut Air Force Base as a member of the Heartland of America Band. Sergeant Maret came to the Air National Guard Band of the Central States in 2006. In addition to his playing duties, TSgt Maret is in charge of Unit Retention.

As a civilian, Sergeant Maret is the adjunct instructor of percussion and director of the studio jazz ensemble at Northwest Missouri State University. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Northwest Missouri State University, and a Masters in Music Education Degree from the Conservatory of Music and Dance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Currently Sergeant Maret is working on his Doctorate in Percussion Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Sergeant Maret resides in Overland Park, Kansas with his wife and one child.

tabMusical Director/NCOIC Jazz Ensemble 
TSgt Paul HolzenTechnical Sergeant Paul Holzen is the director and tenor saxophonist with The Sounds of Freedom jazz ensemble, the jazz component of the Air National Guard Band of the Central States. In addition, he is the Director of Auditions for the band and guitarist/vocalist with Sidewinder, the unit's rock band. His career in the Air National Guard began with the band in 1998.
