The Army Medical Department - Medical Library & Information Network (AMEDD MEDLI-NET) Virtual Library is an initiative of the U.S. Army Medical Command headquarters' Library Program Office at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The Library Program Office serves as the focal point for the strategic planning, policy, and oversight of the command's biomedical, research, technical, and academic libraries located worldwide.
The Virtual Library consists of digitized and electronic information resources, and provides access to a selective group of biomedical and general WWW resources. Links to a suite of searchable Web-based full-text databases, available at your desktop, are also included.
Our vision for creating Army Medicine's Virtual Library is to be the preeminent provider of knowledge-based information for all echelons of the AMEDD. A top priority is that the Virtual Library be responsive to the present and future information needs of the AMEDD. Additionally, we strive to ensure that only information meeting the highest standards of quality are presented.
The Internet's exponential growth, variable quality of site content, and lack of a comprehensive organizational system all underscore a need for established criteria to evaluate and validate the quality of sites. To that end, the Health Summit Working Group's Criteria for Assessing the Quality of Health Information on the Internet, a set of seven criteria, is employed to evaluate all Web sites under consideration for inclusion in the Virtual Library.
We hope you visit the AMEDD's Virtual Library often and find it useful. We are firmly committed to providing authoritative, relevant, and reliable information to the AMEDD to support the delivery of high quality health care. We welcome your feedback on how we can improve the site.
Please contact me if you have any comments or questions regarding the Virtual Library.
