GSA to Host FBI Headquarters Industry Day

Jan. 9, 2013

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) will host an industry day on Thursday, January 17, giving potential responders an overview of the FBI Headquarters project. Last month, GSA issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking ideas from the commercial real estate community and other interested parties on options for developing a new, consolidated FBI Headquarters. Responses to the RFI will assist GSA in exploring redevelopment possibilities to exchange the current outdated and overcrowded J. Edgar Hoover Building, a 2.4 million square foot facility, located on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in Washington, D.C., for the construction of a new state-of-the-art FBI headquarters.

This innovative approach to property disposal has been championed by GSA Acting Administrator Dan Tangherlini in order to make more efficient use of the government's real estate assets while also disposing of excess properties. Under his leadership, the agency has refocused on its mission of promoting efficient and effective government, delivering better value, and creating greater opportunities for governmentwide savings.

Completed in 1974, the J. Edgar Hoover Building is positioned in a prime location steps from the White House. The building sits on 6.7 acres of land and is zoned for office, retail, housing, mixed-use and public buildings. The RFI is posted on FedBizOpps.Gov. The full National Capital Region, which includes the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, is under consideration for the potential new headquarters.
