Smart Grid Investment Grant Awards Recipients by State
GRID MODERNIZATION
President Obama has announced the largest single grid modernization investment in U.S. history, funding a broad range of technologies to spur the nation's transition to a smarter, stronger, more efficient and reliable electric system. This will promote energy-saving choices for consumers, increase energy efficiency, and foster the growth of renewable energy sources like wind and solar power. The $3.4 billion in investments are part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, and will be matched by industry funding for a total public-private investment worth over $8 billion.

July 16: 2012: PROGRESS REPORT
The SGIG projects were launched in early 2010, and all projects are expected to complete equipment installation in the 2013–2014 time frame. Data analysis and reporting is expected to be completed by 2015. The progress report provides a summary of the SGIG program’s progress, initial accomplishments, and next steps.

CenterPoint Energy has released survey results from a 500 participant smart meter In-Home Display pilot program showing that 71 percent of customers changed their electricity consumption behavior as a result of the energy use data they accessed on their in-home displays. The results were released while U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel B. Poneman visited Houston to see how smart meters and intelligent grid technology - partially funded with a $200 million Smart Grid Investment Grant from the U.S. Department of Energy - are enabling consumers to better monitor and manage their electric use and helping modernize the electric infrastructure.
