Conventional Systems
Operation in a conventional mode is mandatory for Project 25 (P25), while operation using a trunked mode is optional.
Project 25 was established by joint efforts of:
■ The Association of Public Safety Communications
Officials International (APCO)
■ National Association of State Technology
(formerly Telecommunications) Directors (NASTD)
■ Selected Federal Agencies
■ The National Communications System (NCS).
Project 25 was set up to address the need for common digital public safety radio communications standards for First Responders and Homeland Security/Emergency Response professionals.
Project 25 conventional (non-trunking) digital systems promote spectrum efficiency. Project 25 conventional radio systems also provide support for compatibility with non-P25 analog legacy systems.
Project 25 digital trunking systems have radio control channels that provide further spectrum efficiency and simplify multi-jurisdictional radio communications.
