History of USCGC DOLPHIN

Plankowners USCGC DOLPHIN (WPB 87354) is the fifty-fourth of the Coast Guard’s 87-foot Marine Protector Class of Cutter built to replace the aged fleet of 82-foot Point Class cutters. Her keel was laid at Bollinger Shipyard in late 2003 at Lockport, Louisiana. She was placed in service on January 2004 during ceremonies at the Base Miami Beach.

DOLPHIN uses state of the art technology in her computerized navigation and engine control systems, optimized crew berthing and small boat stern launch and recovery system. Combined with her outstanding maneuverability and stability in adverse weather conditions, DOLPHIN is ideally suited to the operational intensive South Florida area. DOLPHIN continues to distinguish herself throughout her eight year career by the hard work and dedication of the crews who have faithfully served aboard her. DOLPHIN continues to provide the best possible service to the nation and to its citizens as a member of the world’s premier maritime service, the United States Coast Guard.
