United States Government Provides Tank Ammunition to the Lebanese Armed Forces

March 4, 2009

Earlier this week, the United States Government delivered to the Lebanese Armed Force (LAF) over 1,300 rounds of ammunition for the 105 millimeter main guns of the LAF’s M-48 and M-60 tanks earlier this week.

This substantial ammunition delivery is part of the multi-year, continuous, robust U.S. security assistance program to the LAF.  The program includes modern weapons, vehicles, communication devices, and advanced training.   Since 2006, the United States has provided to the LAF over 12 million rounds of ammunition of all calibers totaling over 2,150 tons from the United States.

The goal of U.S. military assistance to Lebanon is to strengthen the LAF and increase its capacity to defend Lebanon’s borders.  Since 2006, the United States has provided over $410 million in assistance to the LAF.  The United States is committed to building the capabilities of the LAF and it will continue to support the government of Lebanon in its efforts to safeguard the peace, unity and sovereignty of Lebanon.
