On Tuesday December 7, the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Health organized a joint blood drive at the Blood Transfusion Institute of Serbia to help replenish local stocks of blood products for the people in Belgrade and Serbia.  U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Lee Litzenberger led a group of  20 embassy community blood donors that included Zoran Ilic, an embassy employee who was donating blood for the sixtieth time. This is the eighth time that the U.S. Embassy has participated in a blood drive since 2001.

A single blood donation may save a life or insure a speedy recovery for three people in the community.  Because this is a free gift that one can give during this holiday season, the embassy hopes that the event will also help to encourage greater participation in blood drives throughout Serbia.
