On Thursday, April 1, U.S. Embassy in Belgrade Political Officer Eric Collings gave a presentation on the 2009 Country Reports on Human Rights at the American Window in Bujanovac.

The State Department prepares the annual Human Rights Reports at the request of the U.S. Congress as a tool for engaging with host governments and local non-governmental organizations. During his presentation, which was attended by Albanian, Serbian, and Romani students and teachers from the "Sezai Surro" and "Sveti Sava" secondary schools and several other schools in Bujanovac, Collings summarized the main conclusions of the recently released 2009 Human Rights Report for Serbia (available at http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/hrrpt/2009/eur/136056.htm) and described the U.S. human rights agenda under the Obama administration. Following the presentation, Collings fielded questions and engaged in a lively discussion with the audience.

As part of efforts to publicize the Human Rights Report, Mr. Collings has made similar presentations in Subotica, Novi Sad, and Vranje and similar events are planned for the American Corners in Novi Pazar and Kragujevac during April.
