Poetry Slam Deluxe “Spoken Wor(l)ds” at the English Theatre Frankfurt (December 13, 2010)
The German American Poetry Slam Project “Spoken Wor(l)ds” featured U.S. slam poet Jon Sands from New York as special guest at the sold-out English Theatre Frankfurt on December 13. Jon’s performance drew raving applause and cheers from the audience, which consisted mostly of high school students. (More) »

Seminar for school newspaper editors in Kassel (December 3 - 4, 2010)
The U.S. Consulate General, the Hesse Center for Political Education and the Jugendpresse Hessen e.V. jointly organized a seminar in English on "The United States Under President Obama" for school newspaper editors at the youth hostel in Kassel. (More) »

Consul Jeanine Collins presents Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Tübingen (December 1, 2010)
Public Affairs Officer Jeanine Collins represented the U.S. Mission to Germany at the inauguration of the second Fulbright Distinguished Chair of American Studies at Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen on December 1. She introduced this year’s chair Prof. Robert Norrell, Bernadotte Schmitt Chair of Excellence and Professor of History at the University of Tennessee who will teach in Tübingen at the American Studies Department as well as the History Department until next summer. Ambassador Philip D. Murphy continues Soccer Diplomacy Tour (November 29, 2010)
On Monday evening, November 29, 2010, Ambassador Philip D. Murphy and his wife, Tammy Murphy, joined over 600 guests at the Frankfurt Congress Centre for the final draw of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011™. In the Soccer World Cup, which will take place June 26-July 17, the United States were placed in group C, and will be battling it out for a place in the quarter-finals with the Democratic Republic of Korea, Columbia and Sweden. Power to the Women! Frankfurt Program against Gender Based Violence (November 29, 2010)
In support of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25 and in observance of the accompanying 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence, PA Frankfurt hosted gender rights activist Susan Catania who discussed her activities in the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA) with representatives of the media, the Domestic Violence Prevention Section of the Hesse Department of Social Welfare, the City of Frankfurt’s women’s office and several NGOs for women’s issues on November 29. Amazing evening with David Garrett and CG Edward M. Alford (November 18, 2010)
On the evening of November 18, Consul General Edward M. Alford invited members of Frankfurt’s culture scene to welcome a very special guest. David Garrett, the world-class violinist whose CD just made the top of the charts in Germany, was in Frankfurt for a concert on November 19, and was greeting with acclaim and applause by the gathered guests. Scheherazade at the Frankfurt City Library: “What love stories would you tell, if you had only nine days left to tell them?” (November 18, 2010)
American Writer, Journalist and Filmmaker Alia Yunis enchanted the participants in her program at the Frankfurt city library with stories from her debut novel “The Night Counter” on November 18. Shifting between the United States and Lebanon, “The Night Counter” unravels four generations of Abdullah family secrets with a great sense of comic timing and a deft touch of magical realism. "Die Brücke" in Gießen celebrates 60th anniversary (November 13, 2010)
Founded by German and American women, the club "Die Brücke" celebrated its 60th anniversary at the Gießen City Hall. Club President Roger Schmidt welcomed Lord Mayor Dietlind Grabe-Scholz, Gary Bautell, President of the Federation of German-American Clubs, and Doria Rosen, Deputy Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt. Tamar Jacoby Discusses “What It Means to Be an Immigration Country” (November 10, 2010)
On November 10, Tamar Jacoby, President and CEO of ImmigrationWorks USA, a nationally-known journalist and author, and recipient of the 2010/2011 Berlin Prize Fellowship from the American Academy in Berlin, presented her views on Immigration before engaging in dialogue with Prof. Dr. Konrad Jarausch (Free University Berlin) and an encouraged audience at the Holzhausenschlösschen in Frankfurt. Jacoby stressed the importance of a clear national identity that encourages both diversity in the private life and a public sphere free of ethnicity. (More) »

Students discover American Role in East-West German History at Point Alpha (November 9, 2010)
On November 9th, the anniversary of then fall of the Berlin wall, Public Affairs Frankfurt arranged for a group of student journalists to participate in the annual “Student Project Day” at the former American observation point Alpha near Fulda, which is now a memorial site and learning center. "MeetUS" School Programs in Frankfurt and Butzbach (November 3 and 8, 2010)
As part of its “MeetUS” school program, the U.S. Consulate General arranged two workshops on “The American Dream” and "The United States - A Country of Immigrants" conducted by American political science student Eric Browne at the Bettinaschule in Frankfurt and at the Weidig Gymnasium in Butzbach. On November 4, PAO Jeanine Collins took part in an engaging panel discussion on entrepreneurship hosted by IKU.NET at the Frankfurter PresseClub as part of the Interkulturelle Wochen 2010. The discussion focused on entrepreneurship’s instrumental role in creating jobs and ensuring future economic prosperity, as well as the unique abilities of immigrant entrepreneurs, and how to encourage entrepreneurial behavior. Thinking of going abroad? Stop at the Frankfurt City Library First (November 6, 2010)
The U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt/EducationUSA, Eurodesk Germany and the International Placement Service of the Labor Exchange held an afternoon information session at the City Library Frankfurt on studying and working in the United States, overseas and the European Union. Ambassador Philip D. Murphy delivers opening speech at 4th Transatlantic Business Conference (October 28, 2010)
On October 28, Ambassador Philip D. Murphy and Consul General Edward M. Alford attended the American Chamber of Commerce’s 4th Transatlantic Business Conference at the Sheraton Frankfurt Congress Hotel. Happy Halloween: “Red Card for Racism” 2nd Anniversary Celebrated with Pumpkin Party at Pestalozzischule
As patron of the Pestalozzihauptschule in Ludwigshafen as „School without Racism – School with Courage“, Consul General Alford paid a visit to the school earlier in October to get an update on their recent activities to confront racism and further mutual understanding. In light of the upcoming pumpkin and Halloween season, the school had organized a “pumpkin party” as a framework for the event. (More) »

On October 15, twenty students between the ages of 15 and 17 presented their business concepts to a jury comprised of CG Alford and high-ranking representatives of the Frankfurt finance world and city as well as state government. Ambassador Philip D. Murphy in Rheinland-Pfalz: Government, the Church and Soccer. (October 12, 2010)
On his second official visit to Rheinland-Pfalz Ambassador Philip D. City Treasurer Uwe Becker and Consul General Edward M. Alford welcomed hundreds of German and American citizens on German-American Friendship Day, originally initiated by President Ronald Reagan on October 6. In the magnificent Kaisersaal of Frankfurt’s city hall Römer, approximately 500 guests listened both Mr. Becker and CG Alford emphasize the historic and current ties between Frankfurt and the United States. USA a hit at JUBI Frankfurt (October 2, 2010)
1700 students and their parents enjoyed learning about various programs available to high school students interested in spending time in another country. At the “Jugendbildungsmesse Frankfurt” more than 50 exchange organizations and educational advisers presented their programs and services. Bicycle Diplomacy Tour through the Saarland (September 27+28, 2010)
Consul General Edward M. Alford toured Saarland by bicycle September 27-28, meeting contacts, visiting schools and businesses and exchanging ideas with a broad range of people. Consul General Alford was welcomed in St. Wendel by former Member of the Bundestag and President of the German American Friendship Club, Helmut Rauber, and by St. Wendel Cultural Commissioner Harry Hauch. The total 179- kilometer tour started on Monday morning with a trip in and around St. Wendel, and a visit to Cusanus Gymnasium, where Consul Alford engaged students in conversation. (More) »
